Musicians for centuries have been referred to as "long hairs", because often they'd wear it long. But this was just a few eccentrics. And the Mature Generation of the mid-20th century, with their Victorian ethics, believed society was safe from any widespread untidiness to have to see. But then The Beatles - whom before they were known couldn't afford haircuts, because they'd been struggling just to eat - got signed, and the decision was made that their "long hair" (it was longer than men wore, but not hippy length, that hadn't happened yet) was to be kept as part of their look. After all, no one looked that way. They'd been cutting around the bottom of their own hair with scissors, out of sheer poverty; and now people began referring to this look as "the mop top". It was distinctive. It was fab. The gear. And as The Beatles became huge, the public was bound to imitate what they saw. From there - as each year passed - people dared to wear their hair ever "a little longer" (okay, they more like swore off getting haircuts) because this had become their symbol of freedom, of "freakhood" (i.e., being different than mom and dad, which matters to a kid...and to 60's kids especially because so much of what the short-haired adults were perpetrating was so wrong, and the kids wanted to be and so look different from them and what they stood for ( war, the wage slavery called "capitalism", suppressing individualism and independent thinking (making everyone look (dress) and think the same), racism, sexism, inequality...this was far from being about nothing.) And thus long hair became a symbol -what a CSNY song referred to as one's "freak flag".  And hair got longer and longer until by 1974, people were walking around essentially with stupid-looking tangled mops drooping over their eyes.



Notice the line... "It increases my paranoia, like looking in my mirror and seeing a police car."

CSNY knew as we all did, that having nazi thugs with guns & clubs, spying and menacing and threatening us everywhere,
is not a system befitting a decent society.  IT'S INHUMAN BULLSHIT NOT TO BE PUT UP WITH.

Yet it's FORCED on us. So you see the "police lights in your rear-view mirror" and are filled with dread.
And ya haven't even done anything! You're just out enjoying your freedom!

But we are preyed upon by an army of the meanest dumbest assholes,
kneeling on necks, tazing old ladies, shooting our dogs,
terrorizing our whole community, making us fear going outside at all.

Boomers were aware things were SO THOROUGHLY WRONG. And we wanted to change them.
But we couldn't change that people are mostly stupid and easily encouraged to be terrible.
Half of everyone is SO brain-dead they'd even parrot for a thieving lying dictatorship to happen apparently.
Just to pretend they know about things they know nothing about, they parrot to support an increasingly Republican America,
where all that is good and constructive has been defunded and the money robbed, and you can work for $5 an hour and live in a box,
while continuing to support doing this to yourself and us all,  you unbeleivable fucking morons.

Since the boomers, all succeeding generations have done IS NOTHING. We could not control that. We thought we taught you well enough. But you let the rich force mothers to have to work (and for no additional means!), leaving kids alone with psychopath training aids (video games) as their instruction, and guidance in forming their values.  So we have a shitty teetering society now.

To boomers this shit would be unthinkable, any of it. We were peace-loving, constructive, right-what's-wrong DO'ers.
But following us, has been only:

Gen X - "nothing's possible, don't try, embrace the ruin." (thanks!)
             "oh and here's an ever-sickening disease we invented, called "PC"!  (thanks!)
             "Dont forget John Lennon was pitch deaf!" (ok, go away now)
Gen Y - Wah! Wah!  
Gen Z - Wah!

So the 70's ended, and the world became dark and formless and most of its inhabitants floated off into space and certain death when the gravity stopped working one day, and.. ok that part is bs, but without rock music and being together on things, it's been true enough.

So the 70's DID end, and suddenly people wanted their hair to be more controllable somehow (not subject to becoming a bird's nest of tangles with each slight breeze, and not having to be a guy who constantly makes feminine gestures straightening his hair)...so the MULLET(<-caution, scary stuff!) was born. It was worn with plaid leisure suits, by some of the older men who wanted to be "young" and "cruise chicks" still. But other than that sad faction, and some southerners, it soon became thought of as stupid-looking and was replaced by the 80's NEW WAVE and HAIR METAL looks. And that came with music which was for the most part a crushing blow to everything we valued - but the hair and clothes of the 80's at least were neat and an attempt to look like something other than a Manson Family hippy.

Oh if only there was a mod here to tell me I'm wrong, and how GREAT Li'l Wayne actually is.

But alas, there's no one under 12 and tone deaf nearby to instruct me.  Woe is me.
